1. Characteristic of chitosan:
Chitosan is the general name of chitin and its derivates, which is natural high polymer processed and extracted from shells of invertebrate crustacean living in rivers, lakes or ocean. As per the solubility, they are classified into insoluble chitosan, soluble chitosan and water-soluble chitosan.
Insoluble chitosan, commonly known as chitin, scientific name is polyacetylglucosamine. Whose chemical character is table, not soluble in water, hardly soluble in thin acid, alkali or commonly used solvent, soluble in thick sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid as well as 85% phosphoric acid. But after dissolve, molecular weight of chitin is lowered evidently.
Soluble chitosan, generally known as chitosaminte, also known as chilose, is the key derivates of insoluble chitosan. Not soluble in water, soluble in thin acetic acid and so forth acid solution.
D-glucosamine hydrochloride, mainly used in rheumarthritis and anti-caner drugs etc.
2. Applications:
Due to the unique chemical and bioactivity characteristic of its physic-machanism character, chitosan are used in vast fields:
A: medical and health care usages:
Be used to make operation sewing thread, artificial skin, wound band, immune promoter, anti-tumor and antibiotic drugs etc.
B: Agricultural usage:
Be used as biodegradable plastic, insecticides and biological promoters etc.
C. Chemical usage:
To be used to produce flocculent, separating film, light-sensitive material, waste water absorbent, fiber, shampoo, hair fixing agent, moisture conditioning agent etc.
D. Food industry usage:
Used as food additives, health care foods, foodstuff packaging etc.
E. Textile usage:
Used in waterproof coating, electric wire wrapping, transparent paper, separation and retrieve of heavy metal particle, enzyme media, tobacco, plastic etc.
